Tamarack was a Scottish settlement founded in 1844 by Stephen and Sybilla Findlay and sons. Located between Plainfield, Illinois to the south and Aurora, Illinois to the north, it became home to dozens of Scottish families predominately from Ayrshire and Dumfriesshire Scotland.

The Findlay's were staunch Presbyterians and were instrumental in founding the Wheatland Presbyterian Church in 1846. The first church was completed in 1856. Fifty years later a larger church was constructed; opening its doors on October 21, 1906. The congregation still worships in this same church 110 years later. Descendants of the original settlers still attend worship today and are active supporters  of the church.
